In collaboration with Rooftop Republic, Melissa Cate Christ and Susanne Trumpf developed a terrace and herb garden concept for The Nest. The small coffee shop, which supports adults with learning disabilities, is located on the grounds of St. John’s Cathedral Garden in the centre of Hong Kong.
The terrace pays tribute to the oldest church in the city with a minimal intervention which reflects the peaceful and modern surroundings. By preserving the existing tree through a wooden deck and animating the space through a green wall of climbing vines and a small water feature, the space becomes a retreat for staff to spend their breaks. The design included planters for seasonal herbs to be used at the F&B Social Enterprises of the The Nesbitt Centre.
