Ivan Valin, Andrew Toland and Susanne Trumpf are teaching the MLA 1 Landscape Design Studio 2015/2016 at the Architecture Faculty/University of Hong Kong.Read a short introduction on the course brief below and find more information about HKU Landscape Architecture on their website.
The first year studio in the Master of Landscape Architecture provides an introduction to basic methods of landscape design and the agency of landscape architecture and the city. Focusing primarily on the small but ubiquitous ‘sitting out areas’ and the brutally functional engineered slopes, a sequence of assignments investigates both types and in particular their role within Hong Kong. Through design methodologies including typological analysis; abstraction, transposition, projection and transformation and tectonic experimentation the students develop a critical and comprehensive design proposal for a compact urban site.
